Dear Fan Club Members,
I know this time of year is not always the easiest for
some. There are parents scrambling to get last minute
gifts for their kids before they are let out on winter
break or bosses pushing harder on deadlines. I know we
all experience longer lines, more traffic and just more
activity all around. This can be frustrating, but at the
same time to see everyone in the holiday spirit can be
exciting. My daughter loves this time of year because
when she sees the tree, she knows what goes under it. As
soon as we have it all decorated, she asks why there
aren’t any pretty packages under the tree. She is now at
the age that she loves looking through the toy catalogs
and marking everything she wants. Of course, we don’t
completely indulge her, but to see her face on Christmas
morning light up when she sees all her presents under
the tree warms my heart. Then laughter follows as she
starts ripping through everything.
The holiday season, no matter if you celebrate Hanukkah
or Christmas, is a time to gather with family, create
great memories and surprise someone with a great gift.
Gift giving isn’t about just grabbing something and
wrapping it up. It’s the time and thought behind it that
is what makes a special gift. It lets the person know
you were listening and thinking about them. So take some
extra time and really think about what that special
person might actually want and not really need.
As the year winds down, and the new year approaches.
Take some time to reflect on this past year and think
about the good and bad and what you want to improve or
change and what you want to continue to do right. Enjoy
the holidays. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas and Happy
New Year!
Keep smiling,
Julie Young

Ingredients
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
2/3 cup butter
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
1 recipe Powdered Sugar Icing (optional) (see recipe
below)
Decorative candies (optional)
Directions
1. In a bowl, stir together the flour, ginger, baking
soda, cinnamon, salt, and cloves. Set aside.
2. In a mixing bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on
medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar and
molasses; beat until combined. Add egg; beat well. Add
flour mixture; beat at low speed until just combined.
Divide the dough in half. Cover and chill the dough for
3 hours or until easy to handle.
3. On a well-floured surface, roll half of the dough at
a time to 1/8-inch thickness for small cookies or
1/4-inch thickness for large cookies. Cut into desired

sheet.
4. Bake in a 375 degree F oven for 5 to 6 minutes for
small cookies or 7 to 8 minutes for large cookies or
until edges are very lightly browned. Cool on cookie
sheet for 1 minute. Remove the cookies and cool on a
wire rack.
5. Decorate with Powdered Sugar Icing and decorative
candies, if you like. Makes 72 small or 30 large
cookies.
Powdered Sugar Icing: In a small bowl, stir together 2
cups sifted powdered sugar and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
Stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons milk or orange juice to make
a drizzling consistency.

When I was very young my parents purchased an electric
Kit-Cat clock for our bedroom. That old clock hung there
for many years keeping time for us and amusing us with
it's wagging tail and watchful eyes. That was back in
the late 50's, early 60's.
Two years ago my wife and I were shopping while on
vacation and I about fell over when I spotted a
Kitty-Kat clock in the store. I just had to have it.
Then, just one year later, on vacation again, I found a
Kit-Cat clock. I bought it too. Now we enjoy both clocks
just as I and my brothers and sisters did many years
ago. My family is also on the hunt for the original
clock which has mysteriously disappeared. Mom & Dad are
gone now so we may never know what happened to that old
clock. I hope we find it some day. And if we do, I'll be
in touch for any repair parts we may need.
Thank you for so many years of enjoyment, and for the
revitalized memories.
