About:
Hello, I’m Debbie McCormick, owner of Sunnyside Cottage. Opening my store was something I’ve dreamed about for many years. Having worked part time in retail since 1975 I’ve had plenty of time to think about the kind of store I would like to create before opening in March of 2004.
As a young girl growing up in Riverside, CA some of my happiest memories include spending weekends at my Aunt Lila and Uncle Pete’s roadside market in Woodcrest. A fond memory from that time was getting soda pop out of the old cooler, similar to the one pictured. When you put your money in the slot it would allow you to take one bottle of your choice through a little gate. My favorite was the chocolate soda. I also enjoyed visiting with the customers.
I’ve always been interested in nostalgia. As a teenager I started a scrapbook of Norman Rockwell pictures. My favorite book was The Boxcar Children a story about orphaned siblings that made a home for themselves in an abandoned train boxcar. Sing along with Mitch was a family affair and I just loved singing old songs with my mom and sisters. (Remember “Follow the bouncing ball”). We also loved to sing along with the Lennon Sisters. Other happy memories include Sheriff John, Romper Room, I Love Lucy, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Bazooka bubble gum, Fizzies, Sugar Daddies, Pogo Sticks, Barbie, hopscotch, jacks, the local swimming pool, Saturday matinees, board games, comics books, Chatty Cathy and many more happy thoughts than I can name here. I love it when a customers asks for an item that I hadn’t thought about since I was a girl. It usually sends me on a hunt to see if that item is still being made.
A visit to Madison. TN, will uncover a secret that’s been ticking in Middle Tennessee since 1985 —– Nashville Clock. At Nashville Clock, located at 809 Gallatin Rd. S., customers will find the only remaining full-time sales, service and repair clock shop in Davidson County, as well as most surrounding counties. They stock an assortment of the Kit-Cat clocks, and display them creatively in their store.

To celebrate our 75th Anniversary, Shirley of Pawsibilities in Norway, Maine, built this display inside her store.

To celebrate our 75th Anniversary, the Nifty’s 50′s & 60′s of Eugene, OR, built this display inside their store. It is built around the 75th anniversary poster. We thought it quite creative to generate sales.

To celebrate our 75th Anniversary, the store “Once Upon A Tyme” has created a display window featuring Kit-Cat and the 75th Anniversary poster.
They wanted to make it an all American window, thus they used the Kit-Cat song books, a framed document from the American Watchmakers Institute (since they specialize in repairs), a vintage Baranger animated watch display (made in South Pasadena in the 1930s) and a Timey Tell doll by Mattel from 1969 (we also sell dolls). Rather than use the Classic black cats in the window, they went with some of the more unusual colors…since many people do not realize the many colors available. The Black and new Red cats are displayed inside the shop (see photo).

To celebrate our 75th Anniversary, the Wow Factory of Mount Dora, FL, built this display in their main display window on a busy shopping street.
It is built around a hand-made 1950′s-style television screen, and includes the 75th anniversary poster. We thought it quite creative to generate sales.

To celebrate the Christmas season, Memory Lane of Arma, KS, used the Kit-Cat Clock as ornaments on their in-store tree. We thought it quite creative to generate sales.
